Social anxiety can affect someone as young as just a few months old. It can occur as a natural part of human development. People who develop social anxiety in their later years often went through a trauma of some sort when they were teenagers, and that trauma continues to affect them. Social anxiety can present itself in a variety of ways and through a variety of different symptoms.

Usually, social anxiety shows up when you are in public. You can start getting symptoms when you are in line at the bank or walking around your local mall. All of a sudden you feel very conspicuous and like everyone is starting at you. For some people this is not a bad feeling; they like the attention. Other people get very uncomfortable in these situations. Being in this situation can cause your heart rate to increase and you can start sweating badly. If this sounds familiar, it could be that you have social anxiety.

Some people also find their muscles tensing up in social situations. They get very tense when they are in public and are feeling uncomfortable. They can also find that their voice changes and sounds odd if they try to talk in these situations. They get a very dry mouth and have difficulty swallowing as well in some cases.

For others, an upset stomach is a common social anxiety symptom. They get a nervous feeling in their stomach and can also feel dizzy and start getting very sweaty palms as a result of their social anxiety. As their heart rate increases, they can sometimes feel their cheeks getting red and warm.

The symptoms of social anxiety are not the same for everyone and not every one's symptoms are as severe or as mild. Social anxiety disorder is different for everyone. Some people's main symptom of social anxiety could be profuse sweating from the nervous and anxious feeling. Others with social anxiety get tense and feel very uncomfortable which makes it difficult to communicate with others. If you have any of these social anxiety symptoms, talk to your doctor about how you can get relief from your social anxiety and what types of treatment are best for you.
